Cold Calling - Getting Over the Fear of Cold Calling and Creating a New Mindset For Success

Are you just starting out with the whole idea of cold calling? Have you finally realized that your warm market of family and friends is not a viable method of growing a home based business? Now, faced with this new reality, you're just a little bit scared of how to go about dialing prospects. Lets face it, it's not like speaking to people who you already know. They're complete strangers in every sense. Plus you're not sure you have the ability to conduct business successfully over the phone, answer questions and overcome objections.

Guess what? The best way to get through this is "dialing your prospects" every day without fail. Cold calling does get easier over time, and you must try to have some realistic expectations at first. You're not going to close everyone you speak to, its just that simple, so don't expect it.

Here are some helpful hints:

1. Have a list of TARGETED prospects that are already interested in your particular product and service that you offer. Targeted prospects shouldn't require any convincing if your prospecting script is done correctly. You should just be qualifying those people who have a true desire to learn more about what you have to offer.

2. PRACTICE that script over and over with friends, family and record it as well. Then, play it back, listen carefully and critique your own work. See where it needs improvement. Remember, we're trying to get smooth on our delivery, not like a slick car salesman, but rather a sincere confident individual whose main concern is helping the prospect make the best choice.

3. REMEMBER why you're cold calling. Your motivation should be to help people with real pain or problems and find relief with the use of your product or service. NOT just lining your pockets. This will come through in your tone, delivery and dialoge with your customer. Over time you will know when you've shifted your focus from their needs to yours. Understand that when this occurs your success rate will decrease dramatically.

4. KNOW your product. Use and believe in the product you're marketing and understand their benefits and value. By doing this you can directly communicate from a position of experience. Both of these are essential to your marketing campaign success and will come across in delivery on the phone.

5. We're all HUMAN and are subject to making mistakes. ALLOW yourself to have flaws and days where nothing seems to go right. If you can, make fun of yourself and laugh this will help greatly in gaining back your equilibrium. If not a trick I use is doing something that I derive some pleasure from and I'm good at. If you switch your focus to something you've mastered, your mindset will be more relaxed and confident.. Then return to your cold calling, SMILE and DIAL. The prospects will respond to your renewed state of mind and you should be pleasantly surprised at the outcome.

In conclusion, there is no easy way to develop the skill sets necessary for COLD CALLING except by actively dialing prospects everyday. It's the path we all take sooner or later. If embraced as an opportunity for personal growth and development, you will reap the rewards of SUCCESS in your home based business.
